Supporting Mothers Returning to Work

New mothers continue to face challenges in nursing their child after they resume work. Project Liquid Gold is an initiative targeted to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and to advocate for more support for these new mothers who are returning to work after maternity leave.

World Health Organisation recommends mothers worldwide to exclusively breastfeed infants for the child’s first six months to achieve optimal growth, development and health. Thereafter, the babies should be given nutritious complementary foods and continue breastfeeding up to the age of two years or beyond.

It is with this in mind that U Women and Family launched Project Liquid Gold – to raise awareness on supporting working mothers to breastfeed their babies in the early stages of their lives, even after mothers return to work from maternity leave.

U Women and Family also advocates for a better workplace for mothers returning to work through our Better Workplaces campaign where we reward and recognise progressive employers with either a wellness corner or lactation space. Through this campaign, NTUC U Women and Family will work with employers to create a supportive workplace culture towards mothers returning to work.

Employer's Guide to Breastfeeding at the Workplace

The Employer's Guide to Breastfeeding at the Workplace is produced jointly by NTUC U Women and Family, Health Promotion Board (HPB) and Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF). It provides employers with information on what they can do to support employees to continue breastfeeding after returning to work.
